County 4 Hers Parade In Dress

The annual 4H Dress Review and Appropriate Clothing contest drew over 400 county 4 H students. Girls competed at East Central State College ballroom, boys at Willard School auditorium, both starting at 9 30 a m and ending at noon. Peggy Heimer earned grand champion in the junior senior division with a bottom dress. Cheryl Melton took reserve. Senior winners included Carol Dearman, Peggy Heimer Latta, Shirley Griffith, Carol Howell, and Cheryl Melton. Ronnie Smith Francis won grand champion in the boys division modeling school wear. Jimmy Klepper Fitzhugh was reserve grand champion in dress suit. Shelby Morgan Fitzhugh won sports outfit. judges included Jim Bullard and Ted South.

Goats Claim Best Timber Control On Center Farm

Edgar Morrison keeps twelve goats on his 60 acre Center area farm to clear brush and weeds. He says the goats pay for themselves as they improve land, milking four daily and even drinking goat milk himself. Rankin Arena At Galey Attracts Cowboys And Spectators

Rankin Arena near Galey on SH 13 hosts biweekly winter rodeos with top professionals in charge. Selmon Rankin owns the venue, training stables and cutting horses nearby. The two day events feature bulldogging calf roping and barrel racing drawing about 300 spectators and 60 entrants per show with many well known riders from Oklahoma and beyond. Notable names include Jim Rutherford Ted Rankin Samuel Rankin Lloyd Burk Barry Burk Clyde Burk Bennie Combs Willard Goodspeed Jess Goodspeed Bobby Goodspeed Moncey De Burk and Sonny Worrel. Jim Rutherford, 26, near Summers Chapel, left his dairy job to pursue rodeo full time. A seasoned calf roper and bulldogger, he trains at Rankin Arena on SH 23 near Ada and travels the rodeo circuit with his brother Ted. Ranked as a rising professional, he credits years of practice and a steady work ethic, aiming to become a top rodeo cowboy in three years.

Vanoss FFA seeks Junior Master Farmer nominee at state convention

Vanoss Future Farmers of America chapter nominates Vance McNeal for the Junior Master Farmer degree to be awarded at the Oklahoma FFA convention April 26 27 in Stillwater. About 340 Oklahoma FFA boys qualified this year as Jimmy Altom Jerry Haskins and Don L Sliger represent Vanoss. Governor J Howard Edmondson will present degrees and award the Governor's Trophy to the State FFA Star Farmer. The degree honors outstanding vocational agriculture work and requires significant investment or earnings by the nominees.

Specialists Make Study Of County Agriculture Here

A team of Oklahoma State University agriculture specialists visited Ada to study Pontatac County’s economic conditions. Led by Houston Ward, the group included Doyle Spurlock and George Masters, working with County Agent Cy Mailey to prepare an economic development program for the county and its Rural Firea Development organization. Ward will return to assist in final reporting.
