The Pontotoc County Fair and Breeders Association must sell more stock to continue the fair. Manager O. N. Walker notes heavy rains damaged grounds and funds are needed to repair and improve for future years.
Mrs. Fran cis B. Conkling, chair of Allen Red Cross auxiliary, sent a $480 check to Mrs. Orville Snead, secretary, after a dam donated by A. M. Cummings was auctioned. The 29 pound ham fetched a top price, aiding boys at the front and benefiting Red Cross work in Pontotoc County.
Elk City Oklahoma April 9 reports William Madison Hicks once a minister and socialist lecturer is tarred and feathered by about 100 Elk City council of defense members and told to leave Beckham County after being arrested for opposing Third Liberty loan bonds. The incident follows broader World War I battle updates from Arras to Ypres and British lines in France with American reinforcements arriving.
At 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon the total amount reported subscribed throughout the county was 388400.
