The Oklahoma state board of education adopted four of forty proposed textbooks for five years in its first day of adoptions. The selections include works in Agriculture Algebra Literature and Arithmetic with prices listed for retail and exchange. Authorities say only about two titles likely received unanimous board approval in executive session.
Albany April 7 Gov Glynn refused to commute or grant a reprieve for four gunmen convicted in the Rosenthal slaying. They face electrocution at Sing Sing next week, likely Monday, despite a later rabbis appeal. Names include Cirogghi Dago Frank Horowitz Gyp the Blood Rosenberg Lefty Louis Seidenshner Whitey Lewis. New York April 8 rabbis plan to travel to Albany to seek a stay, though Glynn says pleas are futile.
The upcoming Inter-scholastic Track and Field Meet on the 17th and 18th attracts rapid entries from Holdenville with 28 boys seeking accommodations and a girls delegation for basketball reading and piano. Tishomingo High aims to win the silver loving cup for chorus. Roff and Ada High expect to contend for the trophy, with Lindsay entering a team led by Superintendent Swartz from Norman.
A box supper is planned at the Knox school house on Friday night April 10 to raise proceeds for the vocal music class led by Milton Garner. The event invites the community to attend and support the program.
Mary Richar dson, a suffragette who mutilated the Velasquez Venus, was released in London after serving one month of a six month sentence under the cat and mouse act. She had been ill from a hunger strike.
At the Ada independent district school board meeting Tuesday evening Prof. T W Robison was re-elected as superintendent for the sixth time, with a prior year as principal. He has delivered strong leadership and increased efficiency across the district. Other faculty hires for the three schools will be announced soon.
A morning contest at the high school featured six girls in piano and reading. In piano, Natalie Manville won, with Lucile Harrison and Vera Daggs as participants. In reading, Pearl Turley won, with Hazel West and Lillian McKendree taking part.
Ada officials certify dormitory project through sale of 158 lots on Dan Hays property, with proceeds to fund Ada East Central normal dormitories. Fifty citizens back the plan, with terms one third cash and two annual payments, eight percent interest, and gas and oil prospects expected to boost demand. Good producer Geneva Fears well brings 130 barrels per hour nearby.
In Arkadelphia on April 3 the city elected W. E. Conger for Finance and H. C. Evans for Public Works. Voters approved funding an auto fire engine by 531 to 178. Total votes 731, with E. S. Ratliff and others receiving substantial shares. school board members named. treasurer E. C. Hunter. Later a homicide report notes Mrs. Elijah Francis and two children murdered with an axe. one child and a parent escaped.
A major blaze in St Augustine on April 2 destroyed the Munson Florida Central Atlantic Clairmont hotels and more along two blocks. The courthouse suffered serious damage, racing boats burned, and looting fears led to guard troops. One woman perished after leaping from a third floor. Loss estimated at about one million dollars.
Mabank Texas April 8 fire early today destroyed twelve buildings in the business section. Loss was placed at $100,000 by officials.
Independence, April 8. The Prairie Oil and Gas company announced a new quotation of 1 dollar per barrel for mid-Continent crude oil today.
Catholic priest refugees arriving at Eagle Pass report Durango rebels exhumed the bodies of archbishops and bishops including Archbishop Salinas. They say rings and ornaments were taken and the coffins left outside their tombs.

In Washington on April 8 Representative W. H. Murray of Oklahoma proclaimed independence from White House domination criticizing the repeal of Panama exemption. He said he would vote to override President Wilson's veto if the Burnett immigration bill is disapproved, a stance prompted by a Texas newspaper critique.
Don H. Drukker defeated Democrat James J. O’Byrne in the Seventh New Jersey district special election to succeed the late Robert Bremner. Drukker led 10,649 to 5,143 with 2 of 112 districts counted, plus 5,118 for Demarest Socialist and 600 for Whitehead. Democrats call result not a repudiation of Wilson. district voters blamed reapportionment and tariff policies.
Washington April 7 Hearing on the tolls exemption repeal bill will begin Thursday before the Senate Interoceanic Canal Committee and run for about fifteen days. One dissenting vote from Senator Brandegee objected to the hearing, saying all aspects had been exhaustively discussed.
Rumor says Secretary McAdoo and Eleanor Wilson may wed quietly late in April. The report circulated as Washington notes the potential small ceremony and private guests.
