Cold winds and heavy showers soak parched farms as a wintery cold snap persists. The Weather Bureau predicts continued cold, with some areas facing floods and a livestock warning as temperatures may dip below freezing tonight.
In the Bebee region the Superior extension sees growing oil activity. Superior reports a No 2 Summers offset to the west after a 200 barrel per day Viola limestone well. No. 3 Summers and No. 1 Porter ventures begin drilling near 36-5-4 and 35-5-4 as other wells acidize and test in the Viola and Hunton formations.
Oklahoma City April 5 Governor Phillips urged immediate passage of a community property law to retain capital. The plan would allow declarations transferring property between spouses and permit separate federal and state tax returns for each. He said revenues would be limited but federal tax savings could be millions, deterring citizens from moving to Texas and other states with such laws.
Washington April 5 Henry L Stimson former secretary of state urged Congress to amend the neutrality act to give the president broader power and deter European war. He testified before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee as the first witness supporting proposals including cash and carry arms sales and warned the act could leave the U S as the next victim of attack.
W. E. Leslie brother in law of Mrs. Wallace died in Oklahoma City. Funeral and burial were in Antlers with survivors including two daughters Ima and Mrs. Guinn and a son Alex. Members from Ada attended, including several named individuals.

County commissioners authorize an extra $10,000 in sinking funds to back highway warrants, bringing the total available to $20,000. With careful spending, officials say all warrants through June 30 can be paid. April 1 highway fund balance was $18,989.76, March spending reduced it to $15,315.78 as the fiscal year ends in three months.
An Albanian crown prince with American blood was born to Queen Geraldine and King Zog I in Tirana. The birth was celebrated with a 101 gun artillery salute signaling elabor ate festivities across the kingdom. Geraldine Apponyi Nagy is the Queen, with American-born parents.

The beer tax bill cleared the senate easily as the house approved adjournment for April 15 and lawmakers moved to push the big school aid bill at 12 8 million before adjournment. The senate adopted a conference report funding an 18 million general fund deficit, the house accepted a senate amended bill cutting the corporation commission's gasoline inspection force from 141 to 28. The senate also appropriated 15 thousand to maintain National Guard troops at the Mid-Continent Petroleum Corp scene in Tulsa amid a strike, bringing total to 65 thousand. James C Nance urged settling the dispute to end the expense given the state’s finances.
Three Custer Oklahoma youths swept two 4-H events at the twelfth interstate junior livestock show in San Francisco. Melvin Mathews won first and second in Chester White Barrow judgings. Lelan Wright placed third. In the Chester White pen of three Barrows Mathews led, Wright was second, Chitty third. Bob Rodgers won third in the Duroc Jersey pen of three Barrows. About 1,700 youths registered, exhibiting nearly 5,000 head of livestock.
Oklahoma City April resolution urged the federal power commission to investigate rates charged by Lone Star Gas in southern Oklahoma. Twenty eight cities paid what proponents call the highest rates in the nation. Senator Anglin said the commission could not force reductions due to unavailable records of Lone Star holdings. Senator Nance added municipalities have suffered under high rates for years.
The University of Oklahoma students activities committee rejected a petition to revive the Soonerland Follies revue for the sixth year in a row. Norman officials noted the protestdated tone and the continued stance against the revival by OU student drama members.
Twenty six prisoners and the jailer at the county jail atop the courthouse were placed under smallpox quarantine after three federal prisoners were diagnosed. Dr Glen W McDonald said two court attaches and a witness also were quarantined. Entry and exit were barred for at least 10 days. Vaccination and further action planned as other staff and spectators may have been exposed.
Nurses at a Tulsa hospital wept as the foundling baby girl named Judy died two hours after birth. Found unclothed beneath an apartment porch on March 22 the six pound infant had gained a pound under careful care but began to fail a week earlier. Dr Hugh Graham, a child specialist, attributed death to exposure since the baby was normal and healthy otherwise.
District Judge Tal Crawford on Wednesday approved a funding bond issue of 15 255 for the Allen town board of education to fund outstanding judgments and bonded indebtedness. The board reported 4 537 75 debt with interest to April B plus 3 755 more, and 11 500 in bonds outstanding over two years, totaling 15 255, to be paid by negotiable coupon bonds. The board stated it has no funds to cover the indebtedness.

Mary Lucas aged 80 died early Wednesday at her Ada home Lucas Hill on the city’s edge after years of ill health. Funeral services set for Thursday at 2 30 PM at Criswell Funeral Home with Rev. W L Blackburn officiating. Burial in Memorial Park Cemetery. Survived by two daughters Miss Murray and Miss Johnnie Lucas and a son R S Lucas, all of Ada. She was active in local clubs in Ada’s early history. Her husband E H Lucas died in 1937 and was a civic leader and Twenty five Thousand Club president when East Central State Normal was created for Ada.
W B Johnson Pon totoc county administrator announced the state office allows remaining two percent of C-2 cotton allotments. The county office will accept applications from farms without prior allotments or cotton history, with a closing date of April 15 for those wishing to plant cotton.
A mother saved two of her six children from a fire at the New Salem home of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Van Auken but they perished as they followed her during a second rescue attempt. Michael, three, and Andrew, 18 months, were the victims. Mrs Van Auken escaped with an infant daughter after bursting through a window and being lightly burned.
In Buenos Aires on April 5 an uproar arose over reports of armed Nazi style groups in Cordoba province. Noticias Graficas and Critica published photos showing uniformed men in military postures and bearing arms, while authorities investigate a German plot to annex Patagonia in southern Argentina. The photos lack distinguishing insignia.
