Oklahoma City March 31 The war council laid plans to organize every man woman and child for the war effort. Brig Gen George Ade Davis named state commander of the Citizens Defense Corps and Mrs E Lee Ozbirn state chief of the Citizens Service Corps. An advisory committee includes J William Cordell Randall S Cobb and General Davis. County and local defense committees to become war councils to elect officers. Tulsa World editor G Henthorne chairs the council and will designate election day. director appointment deferred.
The seven point semi compulsory program, announced by President Roosevelt, targets dairy worker shortages and can extend to all agriculture and essential industry. It allows deferments for dairy workers, reclassifies registrants, and urges veterans over 38 to return to dairying if needed to relieve farm shortages. It also permits conscientious objectors to work for dairy farmers under draft controls.
Los Angeles reports that 19 year old Ames Latshaw, employed as a theater doorman, was arrested after a traffic officer identified him. Det. Capt. Rasmussen said Latshaw confessed to killing his parents, grandfather, grandmother, and brother on February 11 at their Placer county ranch to cover his father’s alleged abuse. Sheriff Silva and officials traveled from PlacER county to Los Angeles to file murder charges.
Pontotoc county exceeded its Red Cross War Fund quota with 16 838 53 dollars after late gifts. Homer school district added 42 05 while Stonewall Jesse and Woolley Burger donated 807 60 and Oklahoma Portland Cement plant gave 545. Relatives learn of Master Sergeant Jewell Cassady death in Australia. He enlisted December 1 and saw action in Pearl Harbor era Pacific air battles with the air force. He is the son of P L Cassady of the Wilson community. Circumstances and date not released.

Oklahoma City March 31 AP The Oklahoma House approved a teacher pension act 90 to 15 as sine die adjournment loomed. The measure tied to a July constitutional amendment would, by 1950, allow voluntary retirement at 60 and mandatory at 65, financed by the state and beneficiaries.
An explosion during demolition training at Camp Swift Texas killed one lieutenant and seven enlisted men and wounded five other soldiers. The dead and injured were all from the same regiment. Names and next of kin are listed for the eight dead, with the location of their homes in Texas Oklahoma and Louisiana. A board of officers will investigate and details will be released later.
L. C. Pete Stephens formerly in Futtermans meat department and more recently at a California defense plant is reported in critical condition from a leg infection. The leg was amputated last week, according to information reaching here.
