The Democrat party releases a full slate of candidates for upcoming primaries. Names include Henry M. Furman M. L. Turner and Roy Horrman for U S Senate. D H Lineeavon E P Hine and Cnas E McPherren for Congress. Reuben M. Roppik Otis Pr Weaver and Jas W Dean for State Senate. A T West H C Thompson and James I Grigsby for District Judge. Additional entries cover local offices from Sheriff to Justice of the Peace Ada Precinct with listed nominees.
A local business firm plans to submit at the next 25 000 Club meeting a proposal to erect a modern opera house in Ada at a cost of 10 000 dollars excluding the lot. The plan includes selling 900 opening night seats at five dollars and completing construction by September 15. The site location would be decided jointly with club members.
Governor Frantz named in suit filed by Woods county official to restrain state election commission from submitting to voters the question of county divisions. Defendants include convention leaders and other officials. a temporary restraining order was issued April 25 with May 26 as answer deadline. Proclamation timing at issue. Frantz says he will issue if not legally restrained and won’t defy courts.
Federal grand jury in Ardmore declined to indict Mrs. Mary E. Brooks of Francis for the killing of Dr. Davenport found shot near Francis. She had been held on suspicion after being linked by circumstantial evidence and released on bond awaiting grand jury action.
Yesterday Governor Byrd learned of the death at his home near Caddo of Capt. Peter Maytubby a prominent Chickasaw leader and former Confederate Army captain. His passing removes the last captain of the Choctaw regiment and he served the Chickasaw Nation in multiple roles including its representative on the Dawes Commission.
Dr. Frank W. Lefevre has established permanent practice in Ada focusing on eye and ear diseases and glasses fitting. He offers X-ray and static electricity treatments.
A white frost covered the earth in this locality on the morning of May 1. No damage is reported to fruit or garden vegetables. The six room residence of J W Davis in Sunrise addition is nearing completion.
A large crowd gathers at Oakman for the Pontotoc county singing convention. Despite bad weather, the event fills the outdoor space with a lengthy meal on the ground and a full program of singing, with multiple clubs represented and officers elected for Ada and Jesse locations.
Louis Rainey resigns after efficient service as mail clerk to take a position in the county clerk's office at Childress Texas. He departs in a week or two. His successor James G Shields formerly of Mineral Wells Texas has arrived and is learning his new duties.
The Democratic county executive committee met at the mayor’s office to finalize primary actions. An election committee will arrange ballot boxes booths and ticket printing while a second committee handles emergencies. Legal advisers will run pre election training on the new election law for judges and clerks. Campbell holds pre election schools in Ada and Roff. Campbell and Crawford arranged a district race fund of 7.50 per candidate for Seminole and another county.
The federal grand jury in Ardmore is in session as Andy Ryan remains free on bail set at $2000. The case has not yet been presented to the grand jury.
