Pupils and teachers at North and East schools raised funds to buy large building flags. Washington's Birthday ceremonies will mark their display. North school collected 10.65 dollars led by Miss Reese's 4.05. East school raised 5.99 dollars with 3.15 from Miss Grant's room.
The House approved a governor recommended bill setting maximum tax levy rates by jurisdiction. County and school districts capped at five mills, city at seven mills, incorporation town at five, and township at three mills, with higher limits only by public vote.
A local store advertises clearance prices on winter merchandise. It promises steep reductions, sometimes below wholesale, to make decent clothing affordable for men with limited means.
W N Bynum, the O C operator at Muskogee, has moved to Ada to take charge of the station for the same company. The Stratford context notes his promotion raises salary and responsibility. Clyde Gibson becomes the new agent, transferring here from Purcell after a year with the D C.
The article notes a federal temporary injunction from Muskogee halting disposal of thirty liquor cases seized from the Katy railroad and pending further orders. Other railroads did not join, and their seized liquor has been shipped to Guthrie’s state dispensary, clearing the sheriff of potential prosecution rumors.
The Masonic fraternity of Ada is represented at the Grand Lodge at McAlester this week by C. C. Hargis, W. B. Johnson, J. E. Jones and T. N. Herrin of Ahloso.
D Rushing and other North Ada Baptist members worked this week to raise money to complete the church building payment. It is gratifying to note strong support from Ada residents for a worthy cause.
Ada banks report solid growth since the last call. Farmers State loans rise from 27000 to 37000 while deposits edge higher. M and P Bank loans climb to 54000 with steady deposits. First National deposits grow about 8000 and loans to 168000. Oklahoma State Bank gains 12000 in loans and 9000 in deposits. Ada National Bank up 18000 in loans and 26000 in deposits.
Widow Jones offers knee suits for widows priced at five dollars or more. The patent adjuster is unique to Widow Jones and eliminates suspenders. Features include peg top fashion for freedom of movement, full lining, taped seams, and long wear.
T P Holt and Orel Busby were handling legal business at Steedman on Monday, framing a local professional visit.
Valentine cards and postal cards offered at a penny with a broad display of sweets. Fresh Red Band Candies 12 cents per pound, Chocolate Dates with cream chocolate 12 cents, Walnut Bon Bons 12 cents, Salted Peanuts 15 cents. Stationery, school supplies and books also promoted with tablets for pen or pencil.
W T Simpson living on Kirk's place west of Fitzhugh struck a vein of oil at 201 feet while boring for water. The flow is weak but the discovery raises hope of a fuller strike.
The commissioners were in session Monday and Tuesday. The collection of taxes had reached a point to permit the commissioners to pass on and allow the bills which have been accumulating for the past three months. Full proceedings will be published next week.
