The grandfather clause passes by a wide margin as Fred Branson state Democratic leader reports strong early returns. Pontotoc county tallies show 1841 for and 1008 against with more votes expected. Roddie Leads in Pontotoc State Senate Race

Returns show R. M. Roddie leading statewide with a 387 vote majority in Pontotoc county and an overall 347 majority after Seminole county is added. J. W. Davis carried Seminole by 61 but closed the gap. Davis ran a close race overall.
