Smart pumps boost patient safety at Oaklawn Hospital

Oaklawn Hospital has adopted 112 Sigma Spectrum Infusion System pumps to improve IV medication safety. The second generation devices monitor about 300 drugs, integrate with electronic records, and use a customized drug library to enforce dosage limits and alert nurses. Specialists and nurses were trained before August go-live, with clinicians like Kellie DeLong and Jewel Lammers key to bridging technology and practice.
