Veteran Service Officer Don Weberling of American Legion Post 79 reports he has slowed but not stopped VA claims work. Over six and a half years he filed 52 claims, with 40 approved and receiving monthly checks totaling about 63 thousand dollars monthly and 744 thousand annually, plus back pay and local economic impact. six claims are pending. He urges support for the poppy drive and notes services funded by donations, not veteran payments.

Emmett patrol officer injured in early morning crash
Emmett Department of Public Safety and Michigan State Police investigate a collision at Wattles Road and E Michigan Avenue on Oct 18. An Emmett patrol unit responding to an emergency was struck by another vehicle. The officer was taken to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo in good, non life threatening condition. The other driver was unharmed. The officer’s name is withheld pending family notification. The incident remains under investigation.

Man arrested for drug distribution on I 94
A Calhoun County deputy stopped a vehicle on I 94 near exit 115 in Marengo Two after indicators of drug trafficking. A search found about two pounds of suspected marijuana in the trunk. The 21 year old Madison Wisman was arrested for possession with intent to deliver marijuana.

Burglaries Tied to Tekonsha Search Warrant Seizure
Calhoun County deputies, after developing leads, executed a search warrant in the 400 block of East Canal Tekonsha on October 12. Property linked to seven area burglaries was seized while suspects were absent. Authorities continue hunt for the suspects as charges are prepared for the Calhoun County prosecutor's office.
