Michigan Youth Challenge Academy marks 20 years
The Michigan Youth Challenge Academy opened in July 1999 on the Veterans Affairs Medical Center campus in Battle Creek. It evolved from a GED and credit recovery program to a diploma producing option. For three years, Marshall Public Schools has provided the education component with on site staff. Cadets live and train in a quasi military setting with state and National Guard funding. Cadets complete core classes and can earn up to seven high school credits in five and a half months plus college credits through Kellogg Community College.
