The Marshall Public Schools Board of Education approved nearly 400000 in repairs for Marshall High School Pool including ceiling, structural beams, and air intake system improvements. The board also advanced discussion of a likely 2010 school bond initiative.
Don Weberling, once unable to lift groceries after a shoulder injury, returned to bowling by switching to his left hand. He recently rolled his first 500 series as a lefty and declared I am a survivor. See story on page 51.
The Marshall City Council met at the J.H. Cronin Building to discuss repair needs and seek staff guidance on how far to proceed. Tom Tarkiewicz urged council to decide on the extent of work for the city building. See story on page 38.
Over 50 volunteers combed woodlands in Marshall and Albion last Saturday seeking information on Mary Denise Lands. Volunteer list includes David Lohr, Daily Crime News blogger for Discovery Channel's Investigation Discovery network. See story on page 37.
After four years of vacancy the old State Farm insurance building is in contract negotiations for sale. State Farm announced the possible sale to employees by e mail. Spokesperson Angie Rinock called it a step in the right direction and said they have been working since leaving the building to find a new occupant.
Bostik Inc of Marshall will lay off 37 workers as production ends. Marshall Economic Development Director Mike Hindenach said the closure disrupts many families, noting the impact on lives beyond the jobs. See story on page 18.
