Down 10-0 early in the Division 4 state semifinal on November 21 Marshall High School built a 14 point scoring burst to lead at the half and never trailed again as they defeated Marine City 47 16 to reach the state championship at Ford Field Detroit.
The FireKeepers Casino Local Revenue Sharing Board met to finalize an interlocal agreement guiding a two percent share of slot machine revenues to local municipalities. Marshall council member Jim Dyer said consensus marks a draft workable by the board. See page 17.
Marshall Public Schools Board of Education last Monday approved seven new district goals spanning literacy maintenance and safety. Superintendent Randy Davis praised ongoing quality efforts in these focused areas during the meeting. See story on page 10.
The Marshall City Council appointed Brad Doane to fill the Ward 5 seat after Luanne Miller left in September. Doane was the only applicant for the opening, and Miller says he will be well suited to serve the citizens of Marshall.
Daniel Peterson, a 20 year old area college student from Battle Creek, has donated over 1200 hours to the Calhoun County Chapter of the American Red Cross. In September he received the Health and Safety Services Volunteer of the Year Award for helping hundreds of people through Red Cross service.
Bob and Elaine LaFave of Lansing open their 1904 Victorian farmhouse for holiday tours for 30 years. Music from Olivet Community Band under director David Funk inspired donations. See story on page 37 and Community Salute to Marshall Redhawks pages 30-31.
The 45th annual Downtown Marshall Holiday Parade features the Dexter Lake Church float promoting hope generosity and goodwill. Festivities continue December 4 at the Retail Open House. On November 30 at 7 p.m. six bands and over 100 entries will participate in the event.
