The Nov 28 forecast for the Marshall Christmas Parade warns of rain and cool temperatures. Parade chair Tom Sharpley, starting his 23rd year, notes last year’s 50 degree warmth sparked jokes about cancellation. See story on page 20.
The Hankey family of Marshall welcomes 15 month old Sophia, adopted from South Korea seven weeks ago by Ben and Rachel Hankey. Rachel, 32, says Sophia has fulfilled their family and National Adoption Month provides another reason to be thankful, with more on page 42.
Marshall City Council accepted Hospital and Neighborhood Committee recommendations by Chairman Ken Jendryka regarding Oaklawn Hospital expansion outlines for the next two decades. The panel met over 15 months, with final sessions on Sept. 26, producing three documents for the council and Planning Commission. The council will review updated documents at the April meeting.
At the annual meeting held November 17 with over 300 in attendance, Calhoun County Agricultural and Industrial Society outlined a two year effort to settle a half million dollar debt with Bank of America and plans for a hopeful county fair future. Advisor Council member Jim Dobbins urged resolve to support local youth.
The fledgling Marshall based Renegade Rollers started in October and now trains three times weekly at the Marshall Activity Center. Skaters Nikki Trixx Mangled Web and others practice counter clockwise on the basketball court as the team aims to grow in inroads for roller derby in the area.
The Marshall Middle School auditorium renews for the holiday season with a newly enlarged stage. Sound VII Brass will usher in the reopening as final touches are completed. see page 53 for story and photos.
