Bolger chosen Michigan House Speaker in unanimous vote
Jase Bolger representing the 63rd District was unanimously selected by House Republicans to become Speaker when the next session starts in January. Kate Segal of the 62nd District was named Minority Floor Leader. Police investigate a suspicious fire at Dark Horse General Store and Dark Starz on S Kalamazoo Ave. no suspects yet, leads being followed.

County undertakes energy savings window replacement
Battle Creek Glass workers replace 50 year old windows at Calhoun County Building since mid September. The project, valued at 649412 dollars, is part of a seven million energy savings contract approved by the County Board of Commissioners in May and aims to save eight thousand five hundred dollars annually in energy costs.

Marshall swimmers, Kalisz top All State. state bids earned
Marshall High School cross country runner Brianna Kalisz earned All-State honors by finishing 26th in the Div. 2 state meet. MHS swimmers Ali Grenon Delaney Hurst Hayley Brown and Maya Kerr qualified for Div. 3 state meet via the 200-yard medley relay at SMAC. Kerr also qualified in the 50 free. Next weekend Marshall students perform the musical Out of My Dreams with cast members Matt Hazel Kyra Hill McKenzie Schafer and Eric Frost.
