Local artists offer handcrafted items at Santa's Bag, a juried show at Marshall High School from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on November 12 to benefit the Fountain Clinic. Executive Director Mary Jo Byrne notes the event offers unique gifts and supports uninsured care, with last year raising $12,000. See story on page 32.
German exchange student Jil Oeltermann arrived in Marshall in mid August and notes her English improving along with a shift in her native tongue. She says translating into German altered her sentence structure and surprised her mother. Oeltermann is one of ten exchange students at Marshall High this year and is enjoying the experience. Crossroads Church launches Upwards Basketball for K-6 students with both physical and spiritual components. Youth Director Evan Sharpley notes the program aims to reach families and expand community outreach. Registration ends November 18 with practices starting December 12. See story on page 31.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency in cooperation with the FCC and NOAA will conduct the first nationwide Emergency Alert System test on Wednesday November ninth at 2 p.m. The test aims to assess readiness and identify improvements to better serve communities. See story on page 36.
