Voters approved all three Marshall Public Schools bond measures on May 4, including a 24.8 million package to upgrade district facilities and an 8.9 million plan for a new auditorium at Marshall High School. Superintendent Dr. Randy Davis thanked taxpayers for understanding and backing the schools.
Marshall City Council postponed its vote to re zone Pratt Park amid questions from neighbors who call it the stairs to nowhere. The 6 1 tally was announced at Monday’s meeting as Councilman Brent Williams urged patience to avoid more years of unfinished slabs. See story on page 36.
Oaklawn Hospital President and CEO Rob Covert spoke to the Marshall Rotary Club about the new health care laws and their impact on employers individuals hospitals and insurers. He noted the bill is long and complex with ambiguity definitions and not yet 100 percent clarity.
Five area firefighters completed Firefighter 1 2 and HAZMAT training and drivers training becoming on call firefighters to protect Calhoun County. Derek Chism and Matt Parks join Marshall Fire Department, Dan Farmer and Ryan Harvey join Marshall Two Fire Department, and Doug Hoffman joins Marengo Two Fire Department. Instructor Lt. Joe Donato praised all five saying they excelled. See story on page 57.
Battle Creek Corvette Club invites all Corvette fans to Calhoun County Fairgrounds for the 22nd Annual Corvette Celebration on May 16 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event costs 15 dollars for participants and five dollars for adults spectators, with children 12 and under free. See story on page 53.
The 28th Spring Oaklawn event features 41 participants from Marshall Middle School among Saturday runners. Student Council leaders promoted the effort with educators support to run for health.覽
