Sewn into history fifty star flag designer Bob Heft
Robert Heft, a Ohio Lancaster High School student, created the 50 star flag after a teacher challenged him. He sent 21 letters and 18 White House calls before President Eisenhower approved his design. Heft later became a teacher, mayor of Napoleon, Ohio, and traveled to share his story with veterans and students.
