Michigan grants 4.2 million of 6.2 million requested to aid annexation with Albion Public School. Superintendent Randy Davis calls it a tipping point, noting 3.6 million would help pay Albion’s projected debt and relieve local taxpayers.
Rexall Drug Store in Marshall, a longtime staple at 132 W Michigan Ave, marks 80 years in business as Chris and Mindy Munden of Jackson acquire the shop from retiring Ron and Donna Dillman. Dillman notes the Mundens are “us, but 20 years younger” and plan gradual changes to advance the business.
Ashley Szymanski and fiancé Tony Joviene escaped a second floor fire at Lakeside Apartments in Emmett early Tuesday. On January 26 a separate pole barn blaze forced a Marshall family of seven from their home on R Dr N, causing near total loss but leaving the family unharmed.
The Haven Blues Jam and Chili Cook-Off at Marshall United Methodist Church on January 30 drew about 700 attendees. Event coordinator Dee Russell called it a great success as $11,500 was tallied for The Haven of Rest homeless shelter, with final totals expected to exceed $13,000 after all donations are counted.
The Franke Center presents Oklahoma! Children's Theater with principals Morgan Miklushak and Christian Perez and cast members Darius Walker and Anna Lunger in the Rogers and Hammerstein musical running February 18 to 21. See story on page 2.
