Marshall officials invite downtown merchants neighbors and the public to City Hall for an open house on Tuesday August 28 from 6 to 8 p.m. at City Council chambers to discuss the parking lot repairs the downtown tree project and the construction timeline. Director Carl Fedders says the public can share concerns and that the schedule is flexible.
Marshall held a work session conference call with Dena Sanford of the National Parks Service about the Oaklawn Hospital Campus Overlay District and its effect on Marshall's Historic Landmark District in place since 1991. Sanford noted moving a building can strip landmark status and urged a preservation ordinance and committee to protect the HLD.
Tekonsha couple Bill and Sue Powell, longtime 4-H supporters, received the 2012 Legend of 4-H Award at the Calhoun County Fair on August 18. Harold Thomas praised them as embodying 4-H values and the Powells thanked the youths whose lives they have touched.
Citizens clashed over Marshall Township's wind generator ordinance amendment at the board meeting on August 20, prompting a motion to table the issue while officials review raising height limits from 300 to 500 feet. Planning consultant Russ Wicklund noted conditional use aims to ensure compatibility, with denial if conditions cannot achieve it. The report mentions related county fair events wrapping up August 18.
The Marshall Civic Players present another season of productions from musicals to Shakespeare at the Franke Center for the Arts.
