March of Dimes: From polio fight to baby health leader
The 2009 annual report notes the March of Dimes ongoing mission to ensure healthy births. From its 1938 founding by Roosevelt and O'Connor amid polio, the group built 3100 county chapters, raised vast funds, and shifted to birth defects prevention and infant mortality reduction. The organization now funds research and programs in Michigan to aid premature babies and improve pregnancy health.
