SAS promotes volunteer victim advocates who respond to sexual assault reports, provide emotional support at police stations hospitals and exam sites, assist with medical exams and police reports, and work to reduce stigma. Fran Shank receives the Douglas Mehlhorn Community Volunteerism award for three years of service, 593 on-call hours in the last year, and an overall total of 1,916 hours.
