The election results show Liberal 115 seats, Conservative 87, Progressive 7, Liberal-Progressive 10, Labor 4, Independent 2, and 10 doubtful amid 235 of 245 counted. Ernest Anderson appeared before Magistrate Jones at Brantford amid charges connected to highway robbery and one case involved a brawl. Three men including Clarence Phifor and Garth Miller were sent to Portsmouth penitentiary for breaking into a highway refreshment booth. The youths faced sentences of one year each. A separate case fined four youths from a nearby town totaling 14 dollars for hogging traffic, with Inspector Pellow reporting on offender behavior.
The Roaming Autray of Live Stock warns that cattle horses sheep and hogs roaming on township roads in Ontario pose danger to motorists. Halton Rifles plan a Diamond Jubilee at Georgetown during the Fall Fair on Sept 25, inviting former officers and decades since 1866. Major Pedley, Capt Peacock, and Lieuts Earl and McClure attended York Rangers Regiment luncheon on Labor Day to mark the 60th anniversary.
A continuous stream of motors marked record traffic on the highway over Labor Day weekend. The heaviest flow occurred Saturday through Monday as visitors traveled to and from the Toronto exhibition. Cars arrived from many states led by New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan and Illinois with notable Florida turnout.
Robert Graham a 24 year old single resident of Fergus died at Alexander Hospital after his automobile was struck at a level crossing by a Canadian National freight train. He had stopped to let a passenger train pass and drove into the freight train’s path, dragging for a distance. An inquest is to be held this week with Coroner Dr. Kyle assembling a jury.
