Mrs. Henrietta G. McLachlan of Toronto seeks the grave location of her late husband Rev John McLachlan, first Presbyterian minister of Acton, and notes a memorial monument in the old cemetery. She received a pastor call from Acton and Boston elders dated June 24 1851 and seeks details from local residents to locate the plot.

After a Knox Church choir rehearsal last Thursday the group gathered at Mrs. W J Reid’s Main Street home. Fred J Balt presented Mrs Reid with a commemorative comport and candlesticks as relatives and friends shared lunch. The Reids, residents for nearly twenty years, prepare to move to Toronto and were bid farewell with wishes for prosperity and health.
The United Free Church of Scotland will be represented in Canada by Rev. James Harvey D D overseas delegate. He will deliver opening remarks at a conference in Mansey Hall Toronto October 6 and a series of conferences across Ontario and Quebec through October and November. The event marks a significant effort by the United Church to expand missionary educational evangelistic and social service work in a largely new country.
Rev Mr McLachlan accepted the call and was inducted August 20 1861. At the yearly communion after induction twenty one names were added to the communion roll. He served nearly ten years and resigned February 1861. Succeeded a year later by Rev Lachlan Cameron. He died and was buried in Viat town cemetery.
The Acton and District United Church announces quarterly sacramental services to be held Sunday October 3 with a pre communion service on Thursday October 1 led by Rev. N A Hurlburt of Milton. A mother and daughter banquet follows Friday October 8 with speaker Miss Jeane McPherson of Toronto.
Dr. F G Gollop announces purchase of Dr Q A Currie’s Sparks Blood Dentist practice in Ottawa. He will open in Ottawa in the second week of October and thanks Acton and nearby residents for five years of patronage while residing here. He offers general dentistry with focus on periodontal care and treatment of Pyorrhea.
A motor tour from London to Leamington covers Guelph to Henspel er Preston Galt Talbotville and Cedar Springs along two highways. The trip highlights scenic lake views gas wells red walla engines along farms and the rural Beaumont area near Erieau and Rondeau Park with notes on farming prosperity and local attractions.
The Acton Fall Fair drew a large attendance despite favorable weather drawing farmers back to work after wet conditions. Exhibits in flowers, culinary arts, and ladies work were strong with notable horse shows and large cattle, sheep, and pig entries. W A Allan of The Lodge road house near Lorne Park faced a police court in Brampton for Haquer on September 11. Inspectors Reevely and Owens and constables Ford and Allan raided the premises finding beer and wine. Crown Attorney Murphy prosecuted, defence by W Hardy. Allan convicted and fined 200 dollars and costs.
Atton Produce and Grocery Company and C. K. Browne a former Acton Co-Operative manager launch a new business in the Lelshman Block. Browne known as a careful buyer brings fresh stock, attracting customers from longer distances as Acton shoppers widen their reach.
