A motorist returning from Warriors' Day Saturday and a car from a Eden Mills dance collided on the highway at about 1 am Sunday. No serious injuries among occupants. West bound car had front wheels buckled and left side badly smashed. eastbound car ended in the ditch with left side badly damaged.

Patrick Leonard of Edinburgh Road South Guelph died from a fractured skull after a fall while assisting to move a dresser up verandah steps. He collapsed on the sidewalk three hours after admission to hospital and did not regain consciousness.

District Picnic In Acton Brings District Unions Together

Thomas Jackson of Erin Township dies at his farm in his sixth year with two sons Elmer of Toronto and Mercer at home. He belonged to the Church of the Disciples of Christ in VMsBurg and was a Liberal. James Hills, a prominent Guelph figure and harness racing enthusiast, dies in hospital after a week of illness. Born in West Gurufrain he spent most of his life in this district except for years in Michigan. He helped organize the old Guelph Riding and Driving Association and supported matinees at Embition Park. Hills leaves a widow, son Dr Roland Hills of Guelph, and two brothers Edward of Toronto and Jas of Guelph.

Rittenhouse death brings relief after extended illness
Mrs. Justina Rittenhouse aged 77 died Wednesday August 26 at her daughter's home in Acton after a stroke two years earlier and a hip fracture. She moved from Vineland seven years ago and was active in farming and fruit growing. Funeral held at the Mowat home with Rev. Dr. Morrow and Rev. Orr Bennett officiating. Interment in Vineland Cemetery. Also obituary notes George Reed of Arcola Saskatchewan, born Acton Ontario, with services at St. Andrew's United Church Arcola conducted by Rev. A. Y. Robertson.

Major Louis Keene promoted to Lt Colonel and takes command of the Halton County Rifle Regiment now renamed. He succeeds Lt Col G B S Cousens of Georgetown who moves to command the reserve battalion.
