Knox Presbyterian Church marked its ninety six anniversary with visiting speakers from Milton and Brampton Mil Dan Milton guest soloist led by choir and quartette A Ladies Aid supper and concert followed Monday evening An accomplished morning service featured Rev John Riddell of Milton with the sermon on Pauls charge to Timothy The evening service featured Rev A Neil Miller of Brampton and readings from Genesis The day included anthem solos and a mobile chorus presentation with F Salt as choirmaster and auxiliary musicians The anniversary continues on Page Three

Halton Swine Team Emerges Provincial Champions
The 1940 Provincial Inter-Club contests at Ontario Agricultural College Guelph drew 360 club members from Renfrew to Lambton and Cochrane. Halton's teams won the Swine event the Farmer Trophy and placed in Dairy Cattle Foal and Grain, with George Heatherington Lloyd Stokes Donald Peerard and others earning top showings. The event closed with a banquet led by Dr G Christie and guest speaker Hon P M Dewan.

Newfoundland Imports Oxford Down Sheep for Wool
Due to rising demand for medium grade wool Newfoundland boosts flocks by importing Oxford Down ewes from Ontario. The breed, a top producer for uniforms blankets and socks, includes four Rockwood Sheep Club ewe lambs in a Guelph shipment. Rockwood also sold ten rams to the Dominion Government for Northern Ontario flocks.

Fear Farm Hand Presumed Dead In Massive Barn Fire
A large barn on Thompson farm near Stewarttown burned Sunday night. Provincial police led by George Cookman and Aliver searched the debris for Carl Scott Rosendale, a hired man from Lisle who vanished after finishing work hours earlier. Clothes left at the Thompson home suggest he was trapped inside.

Bloomsbury Society Holds Masquerade Dance Night
The Bloomsbury Literary Society hosted a masquerade and dance on Friday evening October 25. Games were played and costumes judged with prizes awarded for best Halloween, comic, and representative outfits to couples including Mrs McLaughlin and Mr Ted Anderson, Miss Lorena Locker and Mr C van Goozen, and Mrs Ross Gordon and Mr Charles Eadere. Baptist Young People Hold Halloween Party
The Young People's Society of the Baptist Church hosted a Halloween party at Mr and Mrs Fred West home on Tuesday evening. Event featured unmasking, choruses, rounds, organ accompaniment by Mr Charles Landsborough, games led by L Veldhuis, a questionnaire by Jessie Coles, table tennis, and a souvenir autograph book with lunch by Mrs West Wilma and Helen. Despite bad weather, attendees declared it a success.

Nova Scotia Bank Plans New Mill Street Building
The Bank of Nova Scotia Acton branch will occupy a new Mill Street building designed with cut stone and brick. Demolition of the old frame structure began last week and excavation for the basement is underway. The site, once home to The Free Press and Avton’s Post Office, has a storied history including a WWI recruiting station and local shops. Completion is targeted for February.

Acton Man Narrowly Escapes Car Ditching Incident
George H Ridley a 70 year old Acton man escaped serious injury after his car struck a telephone pole and rolled into a ditch west of Rockwood. Police said he travelled about 500 feet on the shoulder before collision and subsequent rollover. He crawled from the car uninjured as Provincial Traffic Officer ELA Webb investigated.
