Moose hunting notes and tagging efforts at Maple Rock Range
Action was slow at Maple Rock Shooting Range as many members were hunting. Wayne Leadson led scores with 23, Gerry Lamarche 18 and 17. Moose season started poorly elsewhere, despite good prey conditions and a likely harvest near last year. Department crews film moose tagging for National Geographic and Wild Kingdom. Hunters are asked to report tagged moose and return jaws for age and health data. Rabbit season opens October 19 with a 6 per day bag limit on cottontail rabbits. Eight of ten southern Ontario counties reportedly approve a deer season this fall, including Wellington.
