Town Hall Fire Destroys Georgetown Landmark
A gaunt shell remains of Georgetown's Cross Street town hall after a Saturday morning fire that gutted the interior, with about a thousand dollars in Little Theatre costumes and scenery lost. Firefighters battled flames from ladders, then pulled back as bricks fell, aided by Oakville's aerial truck and a high water flow before finally subduing outbreaks. Fire crews fought on for over a day, returning Monday to extinguish remaining hotspots.
