Acton Rotary and Planters Peanut Co. staged Peanut Day with 192 307 peanuts on the float and a parade from Young Street. The event raised about 596 dollars for crippled children, with $25, $15 and $10 awarded for closest guesses in a raffle.

Man breaks plate glass at Maher Store in Sunday incident
Jack Arnold aged 64 smashed a plate glass door and the large display window at Maher's Shoe Store in the early hours. He used a stone on the door and show window, the door resisted entry with a Yale lock. He was charged with breaking and entering and lodged in Milton county jail.

Guelph Driver Convicted for Dangerous Driving in Fatal Crash
James McKinnon, garageman of Guelph, was fined 200 plus costs after a Dangerous Driving conviction for a September 1 crash four miles west of Acton that killed 33 year old Barbara Ware. Witnesses testified McKinnon’s car crossed the center line and was on the wrong side of the road entering a curve. Liquor was reportedly found in the car.

Four Year Old Hurt After Mill Street Accident
Four year old Janice Wagner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Wagner, suffered a fractured right arm and minor head and body bruises when struck by a car driven by Alfred H. Two Poliomyelitis Cases Reported in Halton
Two poliomyelitis cases were reported to the Halton County Health Unit over the weekend ending September 29. One is a 14 year old boy from Thafalpar township with onset September 22 and a mild case with no paralysis. The other is a 5 year old boy from Esquesing township with no paralysis. In all, 18 cases have been reported since August, with 4 in September and no deaths.

Fire Averts Major Blaze At Beardmore 300 Foot Frame Rows
A small section of Beardmore Co buildings known as the Bunk House suffered fire damage confined to floor ing and one side. The 300 foot frame structure housed single men until six weeks ago and was unoccupied with power cut. Fire discovered by Stuart Midelmy as he went to work at 6 am. He alerted the Beardmore plant, sirens sounded, town alarm rung, and crews battled smouldering joists from Maria Street bridge. Cause undetermined. no entry or stove use found.
