Two Acton public schoolgirls earned top honors at the North Halton Public Speaking contest in Georgetown. Mary Kay Gibbons from Robert Little School was named top speaker for her address on Florence Nightingale, while Eva Hansen from M. Z. Bennett School placed third on Hans Christian Andersen. Mary Kay received the B.D. Rachlin trophy and will represent North Halton at the Halton County finals in Milton tomorrow.

Pensions Paid to Acton Residents Increase Noted
Acton residents received a total of 11880 from the Government this week for old age pensions, marking an increase this month of nine dollars per pension and a larger total payout. In June pensions rose from 40 to 46 with another boost this month bringing checks to 36 dollars. At the Post Office on Wednesday, residents commented that the rise came with earlier delivery.
