Santa Claus made a pre Christmas visit by helicopter at the park drawing close to 1000 children and parents. Jim Ledger organized the event and led a police escorted motorcade to the High School where more children awaited. Vendors from Ledger's IGA handed out peanuts balloons and candy canes to the crowd.

Badminton clubs host friendly matches in Acton
Acton adult YMCA Badminton team hosted the Guelph Badminton Club on Saturday November 30 at the Acton YMCA. An enjoyable evening featured friendly matches and a social time at the close. The Junior Badminton Club hosted the Guelph Juniors the same evening with the Acton boys securing a victory.
McKnight Earns Pre Beginmers Pool Certificate in Guelph
Ronnie McKnight passed a 25 foot deep water swim test at the Guelph pool earning his pre beginners certificate after a side push entry. The Y swimming class visited the pool last Friday with Max Hagnett earning his first and second stars while Andrew Knox achieved his second star. Transportation was provided by M. South and No Turner.

Dr Douglas Maplesden son of Mr and Mrs Cecil Maplesden of Acton was among 14 conferred the Bachelor of Science at the University of Toronto last week by the Chancellor. He graduated from Ontario Veterinary College in 1950 and later led the Warm Service as professor and head after three years in Texas. He is pursuing a PhD at Cornell University in Ithaca New York.

Fire Rages at Campbellville Saw Mill Causes $75 000 Loss
Acton Fire Department aided Milton crews in a six hour blaze at Crawford’s Lumber and Coal Co. Campbellville. The $75,000 fire damaged the mill, steam engine, and 41x pieces of machinery. one office suffered only water damage. About 15 employees and nearby lumber operations were affected.
