The Action United Church of Canada announces services at 11.00 a.m. and 7.00 p.m. with the minister Rev R E Zimmerman speaking on The Perplexity of a Man of Faith and Whither Bound. A 2.30 p.m. Sunday school, Monday Young People’s League, and Thursday prayer service at 7.30 p.m. plus a missionary programme by WGTW Group.

Acton citizens and visitors joined a Memorial Day service on Thanksgiving morning. The event included a town hall gathering, a procession to the soldiers’ monument, wreath laying by local groups, two minutes of silence, and a Last Post.
Acton council met with full attendance except Councillor Holmes. The finance committee recommended paying general and waterworks accounts totaling about 10,085 dollars and approving pavement work costs. A plan to recoup costs from provincial and county governments was noted. The skating rink operation concerns were raised with a call for a cooperative plan with Beardmore Co and Acton Tanning Co. A refund dispute over transient traders fees was explained. By laws for polling places, by law readings, and election dates were set. Deputy returning officers were appointed and a by law extended pavement construction from Knox Avenue to River Street.
The amateur three act comedy Safety First presented by St Albans Church youths on Thanksgiving Evening drew a large audience. The performance pleased the crowd with snappy endings and lively movement. Cast included Jack Montgomery Jerry Arnold Elmer Tinnel Ben Mocha Mable Montgomery Virginian Bridger Mary Ann O Finnerty and more. The play ended with a comic elopement plot twist and broad laughter.

At the Milton convention George Hillmer of Oakville was chosen by acclamation to contest the Halton riding. The meeting backed Hon. Ferguson’s platform on government control and tax relief. Hillmer cited tax cuts saving about 4 million and promised increased township road grants.
Jack Kentner, a standout with Acton and District, leaves this week to join a Quebec club on a season contract with a good salary. He departs for Montreal to begin professional work after making a name in amateur hockey.
Thanksgiving week brought many visitors to Acton with church services and missionary talks. Rev Borland preached at Knox Church while Rev A C Stewart recuperates. later events included a baking sale by the Duke of Devonshire Chapter, a special W M S address by Mrs Bridgman from China, and a baptist mission discussion in Bolivia.
On October 31 a Milton Heights store was burgled of cigarettes tobacco and liquor. Harry Hilson Isaac Hilson and Tomileo Masclo admitted the theft and led officers to the loot including 154 cigarette packs 87 tobacco packs 57 quarts whiskey and a cotton bag of copper coins. They were remanded and Masclo later faced bootlegging charges. Currie also linked to Ontario Temperance Act violations and bail bonds were posted. The court adjourned after a lengthy Thursday session.
Mrs J Bell and her husband Jeremiah Bell faced grief after their Milton drive to Burling ton ended in tragedy. Edith Irene Wilson, 12, ran into the Bells’ car on Main Street near Trafalgar and died instantly when the vehicle struck her head on the temple. The Bells expressed deep sorrow, stressing no fault.
An inquest into the Milton collision returns a verdict that Albert Couch Albert Jones and Jesse Kipps died after being struck by passenger train No. 639 near Trafalgar crossing Milton. The jury finds no blame on the crew, but urges guarding of crossings when another train is due. Mrs. A B Jones survives and remains critically ill in St Josephs Hospital Hamilton.
Police court news reports two driving and intoxication cases. Howard Ramsey was fined 10 dollars and costs by Magistrate Molore for reckless driving on Malin and Georgetown Monday night. Austin Adama of Orangeville was arrested by Chief Jackson on Thanksgiving night for intoxication and fined 19 dollars and costs after appearing before Magistrate Moore.
