The North Halton High School District Board reports unanimous council approval across Esquesing Georgetown Milton Nassagaweya and Acton for a plan to build two new schools in Acton and Georgetown at 255000 each plus a Milton dual purpose classroom gym at 45000. Total district cost 555000 with province paying 70 percent. Annual costs estimated per community range from 1690 to 4300. Debentures will be retired as current 0.3 mill bonds end. Await Education and Municipal Board sanction before architect bids and January tenders.

William Bolton Killed in Rockwood Truck Crash
William Bolton died instantly when his pickup struck trees along Speedside road north of Rockwood. Witnesses described the crash scene, and the funeral service for Bolton was held in Fergus with burial at Belsyde.

Gasoline and heavier fuel oils move through a 15 mile Ontario pipeline from Sarnia parallel to highway 5. The fuels enter Monday and reach the destination by Wednesday with no mixing observed.

A small fire started in a wastepaper basket at Y Flowerpot and was quickly extinguished by a bystander before the fire department arrived. Water was applied and the blaze was suppressed. Cause of the fire remains undetermined.

At the Acton Y s Men sponsored Hallowe en party in the arena last Friday night costumes ranged from ghostly to playful. Sharon Gervais won the grand prize for costume of the evening a head hunter figure on a stick. Winners in other classes included Karen and Ronald Heller Linda Parker and David Hargrave among kindergartners and early grades with many adults in costume joining the children.

Remembrance Day Services Planned Across District
Remembrance Day events will mark World War I and II the district with services and parades. Ac ton hosts a morning parade and Knox Presbyterian service with Acton Canadian Legion members and local groups. Rockwood holds a Sunday ceremony November 9 with a parade led by Bandmaster Scott and the Rockwood Band, followed by a message from Rev Major J. W. Oliver at Rockwood United church. Halton Member Taken Into Custody For Absence From Committee
The Toronto Legislative Assembly record notes John White of Halton was taken into custody for missing a committee meeting by more than an hour due to a watch mishap. The member explained the absence was a mistaken timing and requested discharge, which was approved. At the 1951 census Canada had 1,306,634 horses.

The Knox Presbyterian church Men’s Club in Acton held its second meeting on Monday November 3 to name the organization and elect officers for 1952 53. Gordon Oder was chosen president with Charles Kirknes as vice president Jack Davidson secretary Herb Price treasurer and fellow officers listed including pianist Ten Song Leader Jock Calder and captains Stan Norton Bill Mainnrize and Rev. Robert Armstrong. After business the group played games in the basement and concluded with a hymn benediction and lunch.

No Serious Injuries From Two Vehicle Collision
A late afternoon crash on No. 7 highway near Acton involved Lyle Campbell of Orangeville and William Struthers of Acton. Police say it was nearly head on with about $1,000 in damage and minor injuries to Campbell and a shaken passenger. Constable Howard Gunn investigated.

Hydro Board raises power rate for Acton commission

Rain Douses Fire Near Terra Cotta
Heavy rain on Sunday helped arrest a forest fire blazing for two weeks in Terra Cotta district between Erin and George. Fire fighters used water tank trucks and bulldozers to cut a trench and protect Terra Cotta lodge and several summer cabins as winds whipped embers.

Acton Council Approves Fire Area 2 and School Plan
Acton council approved forming Fire Area No. 2 with Nassagaweyn and Esquesing townships to fund a new fire hall and equipment for a rural district. The NHHS District proposed high schools in Acton Georgetown and Milton with costs up to 255000 each and a 45000 classroom gym in Milton, subject to provincial approval.

Four appeals have been made to add names to Acton’s voters list. Jo McGeachie is noted for November 15. The list can be checked at local stores, the post office, or the town clerk’s office. To vote in municipal elections on December 1 1952 one must be 21, British, an owner or tenant or spouse of an owner or tenant, and assessed for 300 dollars or more. Roomers and launders are not allowed to vote.
