War Rail Traffic Swells Strain on Civil Travel
Railways warn the public that wartime demands double traffic with reduced equipment. Locomotives haul essential war cargo and troop movements while gas rationing and line restrictions worsen conditions. Canadians are urged to avoid nonessential travel including pleasure trips and visits to relatives to support war production. Conventions must be sharply curtailed to free rail capacity for vital service.
