Ed McHugh of Acton won the H-Wins-Cup in a 64 racer junior road race from the Steel Car War Veterans Hall. McHugh placed 12th in two and a half miles and was honored as top Acton placer. Seven Acton Whippet entrants finished. Dave Cook accepted the cup for Ed.

One hundred fifty Indies attended the Spring Rally of the Guelph Presbyterial Women’s Missionary Society in Acton. Rev. L. Borsay of Delhi spoke on Hungary before and after the war, urging steadfast faith and Christ centered life. The program included a synodical report review, book displays, a panel on missionary work, and a tea for guests.

Obituary: Abraham Brown a longtime Acton merchant dies
Abraham Brown a well known Acton grocery and fruit merchant died Friday May 8 at St. Josephs hospital in Guelph. He was 61 or 62 and had lived in Canada 45 years after moving from Montreal. He leaves his wife Saran Nicols a sister Mrs Matlov of Kitchener and a brother Harry Brown of New York. Funeral and interment followed in Toronto and West Toronto cemetery with floral tributes from Acton merchants.

Bishop Administers Rite of Confirmation at St Alban’s
At 11 o clock Sunday May 3 the Rt Rev W E Bagnall Lord Bishop of Niagara administered the Apostolic Rite of Confirmation to 10 candidates at St Alban’s Church. The ceremony included Laying on of Hands and gift of the Holy Spirit followed by first Communion for the new confirmands on May 10. The May meeting of the Women’s Missionary Society at Acton United Church was held in the Sunday School room. Miss Bennett opened the meeting and the CLGWTL presented a program with Nancy Lambert presiding. Darlene Lambert read the scripture. readings by Faye Andrews and Claire Lambert. prayer by Marie Lambert. Dolores Lambert reported on the year’s activities. A skit titled The Call about Africa was performed. Mrs. West spoke on Africa missionaries, and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Sweet along with Betty Mae Lambert and Nancy Lambert read letters from them about their experiences. Miss Bennet led the reaffirmation service and presented certificates to the girls. Refreshments followed.

First Ford car rolled off Trafalgar Oakville plant line
Monday at 3.45 p.m. the first Ford car produced in the Trafalgar Township Oakville complex, vehicle No. 2 794 525, model 57 grey four door sedan, was driven off the line.
