Mac Logan Speaker for Halton Junior Farmers Service

Knox Presbyterian Church Mil ton hosted the Halton Junior Farmers Fourth Annual Church Service on May 3. Mac Logan of Oxford county spoke on The Lord is My Shepherd, stressing daily Christian living and the Psalm’s timeless message. County president Harold Tyrrell led the service, with scripture by Mac Sprowl and choir renditions by Thomas Allen.

Halton Students Shine At 22nd Music Festival

More than 400 Halton county students competed at the 22nd annual Halton festival held at Knox Church Milton. Judges heard over 300 entries across solos duets and choirs with medals awarded to top performers. Oakville led with 13 wins, Milton and surrounding schools followed as detailed lists name prolific young winners in multiple age groups and categories.

Plan Redecoration In Sunday School

Mrs. F. J. McCutcheon hosted the Knox church Ladies' Aid, with devotions by Mrs. A. J. Murray and Mrs. A. K. Mann. They discussed summer projects to redecorate the Sunday school room and vestibule, selecting floor covering and aiming to finish before the Guelph Presbyterial Spring Rally in May.

Missionary Sunday Observed at Knox Church

Knox church held its annual Missionary Sunday on May 3 with Rev. R. H. Armstrong in charge. Morning sermon urged mission work from homes and families while evening speaker Rev. James Sutherland discussed the church’s role in the Young Peoples' Summer Camp at Glen Moir on Lake Simcoe. Mrs. A. K. Mann presided as president and the service included devotional led by Mrs. George Musselle and performances by several members. A life membership and pin were awarded to Miss Emma Colt for long service. The event closed with prayer by Rev. RO H. Armstrong and social refreshments.

Esquesing Township Approves School No. 7 Project

At a May meeting Esquesing township council approved building a school in No. 7 district with cost not to exceed 65000. Appointment of planning board members, salary increases for assessment treasurer, bids for yard work and weed spraying on township roads were authorized. Donations, service payments, and council accounts were approved. Reeve George Leslie chaired with full attendance.

Two Brigades Fight Fire in Orton Area

Fire brigades from Rockwood and Erin battled a blaze at the William T. Overland farm home in the Orton district. The two storey white brick house suffered extensive upper floor damage before firefighters saved part of the ground floor stairway and upper section using a well water supply. Both brigades comprised eight men.

Duke of Devonshire Chapter Hears Talk on Colombo Plan

The May 5 meeting at Mrs. W. J. Beatty's home discussed a October cooking school and arranging Empire Day contest books. Three new members were welcomed, and programs featured a Colombo Plan talk, Chopin pieces, and winter trip movie showings.

School Board Meeting Approves Books and Staffing Changes

The School Board met Tuesday with full attendance. Principal McKenzie reported flag and classroom flag donations, new classroom portraits, planned kindergarten enrollment, and approved book purchases and kindergarten supplies. Several resignations and hires were noted, including music supervisor vacancy and new staff for September. A request for room use was denied and accounts totaling 1393.21 were approved for payment.

No Repairs Planned On Weakening Grandstand In Acton

Acton council decides not to repair the Prospect Park grandstand amid concerns over its structural stability and cost. Air Travel Films Shown At Knox Men’s Meeting

The Men of Knox met at the manse on Monday evening. Members began with hymn and pledge, Roy Armstrong led scripture and prayer, a life sketch of Martin Luther followed. Gordon Oder presided over secretary and treasurer reports and noted it was the last meeting of the year. Bill Mainprize presented two air travel films. The gathering ended with prayer and lunch.

Tea Bazaar Held By St Albans Guild Despite Weather

St Albans Guild hosted a parish tea and bazaar on an April afternoon with Mrs Thom Jones welcoming guests. Mrs Charles Lavitherland led tea service with a team pouring and selling, while stalls for sale of work, candy, home baking and greetings cards drew visitors. Door prizes included a leather purse and a cup and saucer. A humorous quip at the end contrasts speech impediments with a joke about breath.
