About 55 people from Lions Rotary Legion Rec Committee Firefighters Y Board Chamber of Commerce and council met to discuss a 1970 joint project for town beautification and recreation. Bll Spielvogel, president of Local 479 of the Canadian Food and Allied Workers, announced a new two year contract covering 400 Beardmore and Co. employees in Acton. The deal includes 34 cents hourly wage increases, a five cent job rate, full company premium costs, and six cents more per hour from improved benefits. Plant base rate rises to 2.48. Union had sought conciliation but settled before officer arrival.

Regional government plan prompts Erin officials pushback
Erin township and village officials oppose a proposed regional government that would move part of Erin into the Peel Halton region. A plan drafted by J Richard Picherack would place Credit Valley Watershed areas under Peel Halton with Wellington and Dufferin county officials and MPP John Root involved. Stan Fuller chaired a meeting where Erin township passed a resolution against the proposal and a brief will be sent to the Minister of Municipal Affairs via the county. Wellington officials explore a Wellington region model similar to Mould sane Es townshi village, arguing Erin has more in common with Wellington than Halton Peel. The idea was first raised by the Department of Municipal Affairs at Queen's laidstori day.

Settle employees salaries at Acton Hydro Commission
The Acton Hydro Commission approved a total wage increase of about 5000 this year to raise Acton workers to a comparable level with eight nearby communities. Linemen and journeymen will earn 3.60 an hour plus 0.32 hourly adjusting rate retroactive to January 1 and 21 standby pay. Superintendent 7750 plus 2 standby, secretary treasurer 5600, meter reader 5200, caretaker 2.20 including 10 percent retroactive to January 1.
