Council approves architect plans for Town Hall office renovations with estimated 14 000 cost. Contingencies 11 800 and architect fees 100 plus potential 1 200 1 600 for heating. Ted Tyler Jr objects but motion passes. Debate over location at town hall vs Y M C A and parking continues.
Constable Peter Campbell, who joined the Acton detachment in January 1966, is transferred to the Oakville detachment effective March 1, 1967. Corporal Ray Mason announced the move this week. Campbell served in Acton, was active in the Y's Men’s club, and coached minor hockey.
Acton council moves to hold a joint session with Esquesing to discuss dump site facilities. Mayor Duby aims to remove the Glenlea dump while Ted Tyler supports retaining it with proper controls. Reeve Hinton and others push for council collaboration beyond the failing two committee approach.
Acton could not play the OFLA Int B semifinal third game last night due to icy roads. Seaforth leads the best of seven 3 1 after wins. the game will be moved to Acton Friday with Ed Footitt taking on coach and manager duties.
Acton community Credit Union Limited held its annual meeting at St Albans Parish Hall on Saturday February 25. President Charles Blake praised the year’s growth and urged a Centennial Year push to double members’ shares and deposits. Treasurer Bob Drinkwaker noted profits and a share total of 45000 dollars, up nearly 19500 from the prior year, with 6 percent interest on deposits, new Mill Street offices, and a first annual picnic. The board approved 4 percent dividend on shares and 15 percent patronage refund. Loans rose by almost 29000 over last year, three year total over 200000 dollars.
C N workmen estimate the warning signal at the Eastern Ave crossing in Acton will operate in about a week and a half. They have just completed installations at the third and fourth line crossings in Esquesing township.
Gordon Thompson died when his northbound station wagon slid on icy roads into an east bound freight near Acton. The coroner's jury, with unusually many women, found no recommendations and blamed the crash on icy conditions. Witnesses described skid marks and a still-on radio. seat belts might have reduced injuries.
Local Rotary Club leads the 1967 Easter Seal drive with Fred Gordon as chairman and Ted Pratt as treasurer. Rising costs and growing need push the objective to 1 400 000 dollars, a 15 percent increase over last year, aiding more than 16 000 Ontario children.
At the Tuesday council meeting Clerk administrator J Mc Geachie said the Department of Transport has taken the chamber’s parking brief into consideration. The department rejected the merchants’ request to cut the no parking zone on Main Street to 133 feet and to allow a 33 foot loading zone. It endorsed reducing Mill Street no parking to 133 feet with a 33 foot loading zone and proposed 155 feet no parking on Main Street plus a 20 foot loading zone. Council accepted the department’s recommendations, noting some concessions were made and pledging to implement the program.
The 150 bed Halton Manor Martin House, named for the Mil ton Martin family, is due for occupancy by the end of March after delays. Superintendent Stan Allen says about 40 names remain on the waiting list, with a 75 member staff planned and 60,000 in furnishings.
Airs. W. Finlay announced the next blood donor clinic will be held in the Legion hall on Thursday March 30. Clinic hours are 2 40 to 5 p m in the afternoon and 6 38 to 9 p m in the evening.
