On February 2, Beardmore and Co Ltd workers voted to accept Judge R S Clark's arbitration recommendations. The company also agreed. Workers receive a retroactive pay boost of six tenths cent an hour from October 1 1980 and a further one cent raise for 13 pays with 169 fixed as the basis. A modified Rand formula of social security is provided for workers union and company.

Elizabeth Jane Kitching Caldwell, longtime Acton resident and devoted church worker, died peacefully at her home on a Friday in Acton. Born March 28, 1874, in Nassagaweya Township, she married Rev. Henry Caldwell and served in pastorates across Ontario before retiring in Acton. She leaves five daughters, nine grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and siblings. a private service followed by a United Church funeral with multiple ministers.

Norman Douglas in Serious Condition After Highway 25 Crash
Norman Douglas of R.R. 4 Ac ton remains in serious condition at Guelph General Hospital after his truck left Highway 25 south of Speyside last Tuesday. Neighbors and the provincial police gave first aid before he was transported by ambulance. He suffered a fractured skull in the accident.

James Lamb of Moffat was laid to rest in Nassagaweya Presbyterian Church cemetery after a Monday funeral service led by Rev. James Sutherland. He died suddenly at home in his 60s. Pallbearers included Charles Roberts and Delbert Moffatt. Born in Nassagaweya, he is survived by his wife formerly Trene Gibson, son Leslie of Preston, and three daughters.
