Fire Destroys Roof In Acton Farm Home
A blaze caused by a kitchen stove and a new chimney completely destroyed the roof of the 30 year old farm house of Mr and Mrs Robert Allan in Acton R3. Firefighters used 500 gallons of booster water and a distant well to save the interior. The elderly couple expect to move back after repairs as neighbors and the Acton Fire Department battled the flames. Damages were reported by Jack Newton at an estimated figure.

First Aid Course Enrollment Tops Twenty Five at YMCA

Arena Repairs Complete After Roof Collapse
Workmen finished repairs at the arena. The damaged wall was rebuilt on its cement base and the roof was repaired.
Child with Matches Burns Lumber at New Church Site
Fire damaged over 500 in non fire resistant timber at the new sanctuary site. About 1000 feet of double tongue and grooved custom made lumber for roof decking must be replaced, delaying work awaiting west coast shipment as foremen arrived to find lumber pile behind the church ablaze. Lifeguards and New Lifesaving Boat at Fairy Lake Park
Lifeguards operate weekends at Fairy Lake bathing beach with help from Water's Swim Club members Chris Denny and Anthony Hopper. A new lifesaving boat will be launched this Sunday by Parks Board staff after the wading pool opened last week with Ruth Lands borough on duty.
