Dairy Farmers Press Butter Floor Price to May 1956
Directors of Dairy Farmers of Canada urged the Minister of Agriculture James G. Gardiner to set a 58 cent a pound floor for butter until May 1956. They argued stable price supports have worked, keeping prices steady for producers and ensuring supply for consumers. Butter stocks rose to about two percent of annual production, with costs to taxpayers a fraction of a cent per capita.
