Spraying Cattle to Fight Flies At Halten Farm
Halten Farm advocates regular spraying of cows to control flies during summer. Begin immediately and repeat every two to five weeks, more after heavy rain. Tests from the Experimental Farm favor a spray using one pound of 50 percent DDT water dispersible powder in 20 to 25 gallons of water delivering one to two percent concentration. A higher DDT mix is used around stables for cattle flies. Ensure all food and drinking vessels are covered to prevent ingestion of DDT.

Delayed expenses not profit says railway head
W A Mather, new president of the Canadian Pacific Railway, argues that replacing rolling stock costs 800 million though original cost was 415 million, creating a hidden delayed expense of 385 million. He says reserves for this emergency are a legitimate deduction from profits and should be recorded as such rather than declaring artificial profits.
