Acton's Tax Rate Set at 47 Mills in 1937 Assessment
Acton Council approved the 1937 assessment with a 47 mill tax rate built from district allocations for general debentures school purposes county rate and other charges. Hearings on appeals led to limited adjustments including a $50 reduction for Cameron Street and minor changes on Mill Street and other properties. The Finance Committee reported accounts and the session continued with by law readings for taxes. Separately John Marshall celebrated his eighty fourth birthday with a neighborhood gathering on the Guelph road.

Mrs Wm Cusick of Moffat held a household furniture sale on May 31. She had lived on the farm at Moffat for nearly sixty years and will be missed by old friends. The Women's Institute presented her a purse in appreciation of years of varied membership. She resided with her daughter Mea Wow Reid in Acton.

Trafalgar Barn Struck by Lightning and Destroyed
A thunderstorm struck Trafalgar Town ships destroying Walter Bennison's large barn. Three purebred calves, one bull, and over 100 chickens perished. the hired man was knocked unconscious. Miss Mazel Tusker raised the alarm as sparks ignited the implement shed and milk house.

Pasturing of Stock on Roads a Menace in Township
Nassagaweya Township Council met June 7 with Reeve Gordon presiding. They read communications, opened gravel crushing tenders, and formed a Court of Revision to hear 1937 Assessment Roll appeals, then confirmed the roll. They planned printing of Voters Lists and auditing the 1937 roll, and authorized CP Rail correspondence about cattle guards. The council condemned pasturing stock on roads without protection and adjourned to July 5 at 1 pm.

Car Collision East of Acton Injures Three
On the No. 7 Highway six miles east of Acton a crash involving cars driven by a husband and by Dolly Green Brampton left Mrs HW A Timeral with minor cuts and her two year old daughter with a shallow cut above the eye. Green sustained a twisted left arm and Miu Queenie Marchment Georgetown occupant of Green s car had minor cuts. A jam formed at the scene until Night Constable Emmerson Georgetown redirected motorists. The accident was investigated by Chief W G Marshall Georgetown and Traffic Officer Bert Vowell of Guelph.

Bicyclist Killed In Night Collision Near Woodhill
Maxwell Wan 35, a Peel County farmhand from Toronto, died after his bicycle was struck by a night coupe driven by J P Wright of Acton on No 7 Highway near Woodhill. He died at Perl Memorial Hospital after severe internal injuries and a skull fracture. An inquest is ordered. Wright not charged.

Funeral of Dougald Kennedy at Knox Church
Friends and relatives attended the funeral service for Dougald Kennedy at Knox Church last Thursday afternoon with Rev. DeRose of Grimsby leading the service.
