Milton OPP reported a Sunday afternoon two car collision on the Chinguacousy Esquesing Town Line. Jack C. Denny of RR 2 Acton swerved to avoid a car, causing Robert M. Sailes of Burlington to strike the rear of the Denny vehicle. Damages were $150 and $250 respectively.
At last night’s council meeting Reeve Bert Hinton criticized the dredging plan as too little and too late arguing more public input was needed. The project by Cummins Construction aims to remove 2,000 cubic yards daily, moving 300,000 to 400,000 cubic yards to fill low swamp land up to five feet deep.
Halton County plans a three day shotgun deer hunt from November 6 to 8 with no dogs and shotgun only. Wellington and Wentworth Counties must approve similar rules for Oakville and Burlington areas where hunting is banned south of Highway 5. A bow and arrow season may follow if neighbors consent.

It was Acton's third motorcycle accident in two weeks.
At 7 30 a m last Thursday Acton firefighters responded to an Esquesing road incident near Acton Limestone Quarries. The cab of a Toronto tractor trailer was destroyed by fire while firefighters saved the trailer.
Cummins Construction of Toronto won the low bid of 202000 for Fairy Lake dredging by the Credit Valley Conservation Authority, amid approval hints from the Ontario Energy and Resources Department. Work to remove 400000 cubic yards of silt starts within days and runs into spring, with possible pause for winter and resume in spring.
Acton council held its sole July meeting long into the night with most members present on vacation. The body discussed adding land to the sewage plant, with engineers needing 50 additional feet beyond the current acreage and plans to meet with Beardmore and Co. after staking out requirements to view layout.

The Acton Ontario Provincial Police report for July 16 to 22 shows 732 patrol miles over 192 hours with eight charges and nine warnings under the Highway Traffic Act. Two vehicle incidents, one hit and run and one personal injury case, led to traffic and criminal charges. 13 other events included two disturbances and lost property reports. Magistrate's Court in Milton convicted 12 people on varying offences, with total fines of 230 dollars and costs of 43 dollars. A corporal warns parents to secure children in cars to prevent injuries in sudden stops.
Halton MPP George A. Kerr publicly pledges support for Nova Scotia Premier Robert Stanfield in the PC national leadership contest. Kerr recalls Stanfield from the early 1950s Halifax South campaign and calls his record “fabulous” in a Liberal province, saying Stanfield could unite and attract uncommitted voters.
A council meeting unveiled a provincial plan to help residents aged 65 and over pay taxes. If enough requests come in, council may pass a by law to implement. Seniors could receive up to 50 percent tax relief, capped at 150 a year, if they reside on the property. The exemption is municipality granted, with government reimbursement. The claimed exemption stays on the deed and is deducted when the estate sells. Reeve Hinton called it a tax credit not payable until transfer of the property.
