About 1 500 attendees witnessed the Halton Dairy Princess contest at Hornby Community Park during the Horn by Ball Club’s 20th annual garden party. Carol Swackhamer of Acton won the Halton County Dairy Princess title for 1967 after speeches, interviews, and milking demonstrations. Laura Henderson and Lois Murray were runners up. The winner will advance to the Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto.

A dubious Free Press tale about a live toad wedged inside a hollow tree has been verified. The toad was found in October 1893 by Alex Cripps, son of Darwin Cripps, while cutting a 200 year old log about 60 feet above ground, with 30 inches of wood surrounding it. The mill later burned, and Cripps later moved to Acton with a new saw mill at Crewsons Corners.
