The Acton fish derby drew anglers from Hamilton Guelph Brampton Milton Georgetown Dundas and beyond to Fairy Lake last Saturday. Winners led by Alex Savickas claimed top prizes including a grand glass fly rod and reel with the day’s biggest catch. Youngest winner was 19 months old Daniel Roberts Acton. oldest participant Wilf McEachern 44.

Acton Legion Sponsors Thriving Minor Sports Project
At a Legion executive meeting last Wednesday the Acton branch accepted sponsorship of the Minor Sports club as a new project. Former members like Vic Masters and Mike Coxe remain connected. Herb Woods is chairman with George Hollinger treasurer as the group plans a Civic Holiday sports day to raise funds. Minor sports teams are playing a regular baseball schedule.

Firemen and police revive man saved at Fairy Lake
Firemen and Constable Cook aided by Allanby Oost and Dr. Kenney revived a man pulled from Fairy Lake after a five minute submersion. The non swimmer Versteegh was resuscitated with artificial ventilation as bystanders watched. Milton, a bystander, was later taken to hospital in good condition.

Danish immigrant drowns in Credit River near Glen Williams
In full view of bathers Einar Poulson, 38, drowned in the Credit River. Fire brigades from Georgetown and Acton searched with equipment, found and revived him briefly with oxygen and artificial respiration but he did not survive the 3 hour effort. Onlookers notified police after he vanished following a dive.

On Thursday at about 3 pm a two car collision on Highway 7 near Markham killed Mr. James Smith and injured Mrs. Smith. Earl Sayers Mrs. Sayers and three children were treated at East General Hospital Toronto with serious injuries. Sandra was released later. others remained in hospital.

Antiques Lost As Home Razed In Nassagaweya Farm
An early morning fire destroyed a nine room home on Nassagaweya township's first line near Acton. Firefighters arrived after a delayed alarm and saved surrounding buildings but the residence owned by Les Churcher H Somerville and Tom Lawrence of Guelph was a total loss. The contents included antiques such as brass beds spool beds and large hooked rugs. A furnace stored in the basement was also lost. A fourth owner Billings had previously left the property last year. Police and fire investigators noted beer bottles near the kitchen area and found no spread to nearby farms. The house and contents were partially insured.

Eleanor Margaret Cook of Limehouse will marry Dr. Robert Russell Bower of Ottawa on July 2. A miscellaneous shower was held in Toronto at Mrs. A. R LeFeuvre’s home and another in Port Colborne at Miss H Robertson’s home. Nurses and staff at Port Colborne General Hospital presented the bride with gifts. A tea was hosted by the bride’s mother for neighbors on Saturday June 5.
