County Council Appointments Contracts Grants and Accounts
Halton County Council met in Milton last Tuesday. The morning session chaired by Wandien had all members except Reeve of Maquesing. Minutes were read and adopted. G Hillett was appointed to the Milton High School Board for 1937-40. Salvation Army from Hamilton sought a grant for hospital and rescue work. later a grant of 50 dollars to the Army and 50 to the Canadian National Institute for the Blind was approved. Committee reports followed and by law authorizing total County Roads expenditure for 1938 was read and passed. The council also considered insurance disputes, printing tenders, and welfare board appointments under the new act, with expenses recorded for Mothers’ Allowance and Old Age Pensions.

John Rockwood Audition Delights Met Opera Fans
John Rockwood heard in a radio audition from New York for the Metropolitan Opera Company. Known locally as Frank Guild, he is a Rockwood native who has impressed Acton audiences as a soloist. Johnson presided at the audition and offered brief remarks. Rockwood sang Vision Fugitive then My Message, both beautifully rendered. He traced his musical inspiration to Italian study and the Guelph recital era, noting a four year radio contract.

In a Thursday Rural League night labeled busy and rough the Rockwood and Everton match ended in a 3 3 draw as Tinney Morales sparked a near goal before a controversial set of calls. Rockwood’s Saunders faced a penalty for sticking, Everton received a penalty shot then a free goal, while Jack Laverty and R Ross of Rockwood drew penalties for rough play. Contract for wiring at factory building

Memorial tower honors Edison invention site
Erected on the exact spot where Thomas A Edison’s original laboratory stood when he invented the first practical incandescent light, the tower is ready for dedication. A giant electric light bulb surmounts the structure, weighing over 6,000 pounds in glaze and mounted on a three ton steel frame. The bulb rises fourteen feet tall and two inches thick.

Daily Newspapers Debate Overside Acton High School Meet
Acton High School held a literary meeting last Friday led by Form II chairman Tom Watson. In a debate on whether daily newspapers do more harm than good the affirmative, led by Babe McCalg and Margaret Scriven, won against Vernon Agnew and Betty Burkholder. Judges Has sard McPhail Breen ruled for the affirmative. score 05-58. Marie Brunelle performed a piano solo. A short play was presented by Bev Arnold Vernon Agnew Tom Watson and Bruce Pargeter.
