Acton traveled to Galt and won 5-2 in a fast paced Intermediate A hockey game. Acton led 2-0 after the first period and extended pressure in the third to seal the win as Galt pushed, with several penalties scattered and Greer yielding a knee injury but continuing play.
Horace Bingham a middle aged farmer of three miles from Georgetown died from injuries suffered when a bull he was watering attacked him and became tangled in his clothing. Clifford Hills, his employee, tried to help but Bingham died before aid arrived. He leaves a widow two daughters Elizabeth and Catherine, three brothers and four sisters.
The A C S Literary Society held its Friday meeting with Polly Party presiding. Form I presented a program including Audery MacArthur vocal, the play Parking for One by Ken Blow, duets by Dorothy Steele and Wilda Mc Laughlin, a Casey at the Dentist’s skit, a paper by Harry Savage, and The Guest of Honor play by Audrey MacArthur, Mabel Harris and John Chapman.
Acton juniors drop an 8 to 5 decision to Milton at the local Arena. The game featured penalties for Bayliss and multiple scrambles with Brush and Jacque among scorers. Milton led 3-2 after two periods with momentum shifting after Sonny Jacquard connected on a pass from Bayliss.
The Knox Young People's Society met on Tuesday with Dr W M Kannawin of Toronto as guest speaker. The program included sacred song scripture reading and prayer. Kannawin spoke about his trip to Oslo Norway for the World Sunday School Association conference in 1938 and described the vast delegation of about 2800 from 48 nations with English and Norwegian as official languages.
The Halton Union Farmers Mutual Fire Insurance Co held its annual meeting in Acton. The Eighthyeighth annual report shows lower losses at year end totaling 644.69 dollars and assets of 53 173.08 with liabilities of 26 285.62. Policies in force reached 2975 with 1023 new or renewed. Insurance in force stood at 11 262 257.04. Last Thursday a meeting at Bannockburn School organized a Literary Society. Officers elected include President Mrs Roy McKeown Vice-President Mrs Geo Tyler Secretary Treasurer Mrs Ada Finlay Executive Ralph Denny Lloyd James Mrs Morrison Miss Margaret Brown. Lunch followed by a social hour.
Abnat Conway of Huntsville is listed on the Canadian track team for the British Empire Games in Australia. He is the son of Mr Co W Conway of Huntsville and the grandson of the late C A Conway of Acton. Friends wish him success and a safe trip.
A truck owned by Joe Smith of Stewarttown slipped into a hole at Fairy Lake last Friday evening while hauling ice to Stewartown. The rear wheels became stuck underwater and the machine needed hours of effort to be pulled free and return to Stewarttown.
At the Acton Eight School Board meeting the grant from the County was set at 1396.89 dollars, far below past years. The board instructed the secretary to seek an adjustment with the County Clerk and to consult Toronto for explanation, noting deductions for pupils at Guelph Collegiate.

The Dublin Woman's Institute held its January meeting at Mrs. T. A. Storey's home. President Mrs. A. Near led. Edith Nellis adopted the motto Do your best at all times and in all things. Mrs. Somerville is delegate to the Fall Fair and Exhibitions convention in Toronto February 3 and 4 on the topic Relief and Community Activities. Mrs. Watson convener. paper prepared by Mrs. Watson read by Mrs. McIntyre. Community singing followed. lunch and social time concluded the event.

A farm home of Mrs. Herbert Block near Rockwood was totally destroyed by a Friday night fire. The barn and its contents burned as well, with the blaze starting from an exploding stove. The house contents were lost and the farm had been recently bought by Mr. J R McAlister.
Reeve McCulcheon and Chairman R J Keri presided as letters on water metres and Hydro lamp sales were read. C W Wilon was named delegate from Acton to the Municipal Electric Utilities convention in Toronto and the commission discussed prepayment receipt sales for a future full meeting. Hydro Department accounts totaled 1 949.29 for power and 11.82 for stationery.
The Acton YMLCA Junior Hockey League completed the first round with four teams. Black Hawks beat Bruins 2 0 and Canadiens defeated Maple Leafs 3 0 as team standings unfold under captaincies Pargeter McHugh Bentty.
The United Church Ladies Aid Society held its monthly meeting at Mrs A Fryer on Bower Avenue. President Mrs J Symon led the devotional with Mrs R Johnson Aller, and Group No 1 organized lunch by Mrs JR Kennedy and Mrs RL Johnson. A vote of thanks was given to Mrs Pryer for use of her home.
Acton council discussed tax prepayment, with Reeve McCutcheon securing Oakville forms as a model for Acton. The meeting also covered a concert by the Lorne Scots Band in Georgetown, council finances, indigent patients, school board audit rules, and a proposed boiler upgrade by Mr Starr.
The Eramosa Council in Rockwood met in special session to review tax arrears up to 1945, discuss the Auditors' Report, and plan collection moves. Reeve Storey presided as officials voted to notify taxpayers in arrears and refer 1932 34 and 1935 taxes to the County Treasurer for land tax sale.
Marshall and Lambert named to the Senate representing Ontario in the Red Chamber. Norman Lambert, head of the National Liberal Federation, takes the other Ontario vacancy and will keep his federation duties. Rumors tied Marshall to a lieutenant governor post but were denied when Albert Matthews was appointed.
The U F Y P O held a January meeting in Lorne School Owing with Leonard Tubman presiding. Ada Pindlay read, Hob Allan played mandolin, Mansell Nelly spoke on a short course at the OAC, Dorothy McKenzie and Blanche McKinnon sang, and a community singing led by Miss Stephenson preceded a speech by Walter Cooke and Jim MelIntyre piano solo. Lunch and dancing followed.
Announcements detail several events: a Carolina Jubilee Slingers concert at United Church Rockwood on February 401 at 8 pm with 25 cent admission, a February 9 Town Halls Acton dance with St Alban's ALY, admission 35 cents, and a Knox skating party at the Arena on February 5 at 8 pm with 10 and 16 cent admission plus a Knox Orchestra wind ensemble in attendance.
