Personal notes from Acton residents record visits by guests from Toronto and Orangeville. Families including Hutcheon Sayers Gibbons McCutcheon Walker and Hall are listed with weekend visits and extended stays. The YMCA National Council secretary Arnold Ward spent a day in Acton with Cliff Sutton.
A cup and saucer shower hosted by Haltonville ball team honors Hazel Kennedy as a bride this week. Nassagaweva Presbyterian Church choir held a miscellaneous shower Saturday night at Kennedy home. Families from Rockwood and Hamilton Beach visited relatives over the weekend. Joe Henderson shows steady recovery at St. Joseph Hospital in Guelph. Melmeys visited relatives from Hamilton Beach on Sunday.
The Institute held an auction sale and euchre on Wednesday night January 17. Winners were Mrs Alvin Fisher and Mr T D McCutcheon. Several local residents visited over the week including Mr and Mrs Harry Hancock Belfountain and Mr and Mrs Irwin Hamilton. Family visits and holiday news unfold in Mount Pleasant Gilford Acton and nearby towns as community ties are noted. Sympathy extended to the Boles family in the death of Mrs Siep Fergus last Thursday.
Death is mourned of Mr Milliere with sympathy extended to Mrs Milliere and family. He lived in Limehouse for over 40 years after immigrating from the Channel Islands, later moving to George Town. Funeral attendance included relatives and visitors from Toronto and Woodbridge. A Marathon Euchre event sponsored by the hall board concluded with prizes and a lunch, marking a prosperous evening.
The meeting at Mr and Mrs Lloyd Marshall explored what marketing boards can achieve with questions on product gaps in areas held back by schemes. It considered federal power, cross province control, and how boards compare with trade unions while noting a play prep and a high scoring couples in a recent hall event.
A supply of new books will be available to Ac ton Public Library members this Saturday evening. New titles include Thomas Costain Son of a Hundred Kings and The Conquerors trilogy, Virgil Gheorghiou The 25th Hour, Camelia Otis Skinner Nuts in May, Katharine Flannigan The Faith of Mrs Kelleen, Frank Yerby Floodtide, John Jennings The Pepper Tree, and Frank Slaughter The Stubborn Heart arriving this weekend.
Scotty McCristall scored four goals for Ray Mason's club in a 4-4 tie with the league leading Andy Wilson team. Don Deforest and Harold Skilling's squads split the twin bill as Wilson's squad won 4-1 in the other half with Ed McHugh and Rus Arcie tallying.
Miss Grindley showed slides from her Mexico City tour including Canada to Monterey and the Pyramids near Mexico City. Next week will feature return-trip photos. The school plans a writing contest for Eve Opener with a prize and a Grade eleven literary program forthcoming. Gas taps installed improve safety though some kids may turn them on.
St Johns Church held its annual vestry meeting at Dr and Mrs K B Waller’s home with strong attendance. Rev W G Luxton opened and led prayers as Mrs Fred Hamilton reported a healthy financial year. discussions followed on church matters.
The Farm Forum met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ken Stubbington with Mr. Stubbington leading. Discussion centered on creating a single marketing board to manage all farm products and aid price control, while a representative from each province would participate. A Euchre contest followed with prizes to Mrs. Gordon Aitken and Mr. Alvin Fisher.
Ross Swackhamer, native of Acton and longtime New Toronto resident, died suddenly Sunday at St. Joseph's Hospital in Toronto after a heart ailment. Survived by wife Gladys (Milton) and two daughters Nadine Stinton of Port Credit and Jean Evans of Alderwood, plus one sister and three brothers. Funeral held yesterday with burial at Park Lawn Cemetery, Toronto.

The Greenock Women’s Institute held its January meeting at Mrs. Fred Johnston’s home with 22 members and several visitors. Mrs. T Hemsley led as president and readings and reports highlighted community service efforts and a February 16 school social.
Acton YMCA directors led by membership chairman Claude Cook launch a two week campaign to boost the Y program facilities and services for young people. Supporters may buy an individual senior membership for 500 dollars or a couple's membership for 900 dollars with many former unsolicited citizens being approached. Free memberships for public school children are funded by supporting members, supporting a busy year of circus summer camp father and son events and daily youth activities.
On a Thursday evening in January the Knox Church choir hosted Rev Armstrong and Mrs Armstrong for a social at the manse. After a brief practice the party enjoyed table games beside the open fire. Mrs Timber, formerly Miss Kathleen Finlay and a recent bride, was presented with a silver dish. The pleasant gathering concluded with a serving of a dainty repast.
