Acton Woman Injured in Guelph Collision
Mrs. Evelyn Aitken of Acton suffered cuts when a car driven by her husband Kevin Aitken collided head on with a tractor trailer on Ontario Street Guelph last Monday afternoon. She was treated by Dr L O H Leggatt after her head struck the windshield. Police report the Aitken car was westbound while attempting to pass parked vehicles. both drivers braked as they realized they could not clear the others. Slippery roads contributed to the crash. Aitken car front end damage estimated at 250 dollars. heavy truck damage minimal.

Rockwood Women Awarded Damages After 1949 Bus Crash
In 1949 five Rockwood women and one man sued for injuries from a Gray Coach Lines bus crash south of Rockwood. A jury awarded $12 333.30 total, with Mrs May Fletcher receiving 5 000 for hospital care and her husband 2 392.85. Mrs Ida Clark, Miss Isabel Nightingale, Miss Edna Ewers, and Mrs Margaret Wilson were also compensated for lost work and out of pocket expenses. Total awards included damages for pain and suffering and specific costs.

Altar Society Holds Supper at St Joseph's Church
The Altar Society of St Joseph's Church hosted a turkey supper in the church hall last Thursday evening. Rev Father Morgan chaired, guest speaker Mrs Gowdy shared impressions of Europe and Rome during Holy Year. Mrs Wes Marchment thanked her. Mrs E Heffernan read My New Year Prayer. About forty ladies attended and exchanged gifts after drawing numbers.

Seven Car Smash Blamed on Ice and Rain on Highway
A multiple vehicle crash on No. 7 Highway east of Acton left an estimated 1400 dollars in damage after freezing rain reduced visibility and slick roads. Seven cars were involved, with six already in the ditch when a seventh car collided with the Hillman. Seven occupants in Guest’s car escaped injury. an air force driver witnessed the pile up as it grew. Police investigated as more vehicles joined the scene.

Nassagaweya resident Joseph Henderson was rushed to St. Joseph's Hospital Guelph after his left arm was badly crushed in a baler while baling hay with his father and others. A tourniquet was applied and he was resting comfortably with reports that the arm was saved.

Flames and Smoke Spark Over Acton Sky
A Friday evening flame and dense black smoke streaked across Acton’s sky near Willow Street when hydro workers accidentally caused a service pole line to arc. Insulation blew off, wires dropped, but workers quickly severed the line and prevented any danger to pedestrians or motorists. No service interruptions occurred downtown.

New Year's Theme Of W I Meeting
The January meeting of the Acton Women's Institute was hosted by Mrs. P. Hunter with President Mrs. R. L. Davidson presiding. Names for roll call cited admired citizens, home economics tips on kitchen blackboards, origin of Canada discussed, a New Year greeting read, and a poem recited. An applique quilt project was planned, Christmas parcels to Actonians in hospital and Brampton Home reported, social evenings offered, and a contest awarded to Mrs. Wilderspin. The gathering closed with a song and tea.
